The Further Adventures of "BORING BUT TRUE"

Just a few niblets to add to Boring But True - The Saga Continues...which contains all of the editions of this little idea.  I thought I might be adding to it now and then, but seems I've created a monster, as I keep finding these interesting facts that having absolutely nothing to do with anything.  Read up:

In Massachussetts snoring is prohibited unless all bedroom windows are closed and securely locked.  It is also still on the books as being illegal in this clean State to retire to your bed without first taking a bath.  Say:  how do they enforce that?  ( See further on for more weird and useless laws - funny, but useless ).

Noah Webster (yes, THAT Webster!) was referred to as "The Question Mark" in his school days at Yale.

The short-term memory capacity for most people is between five and nine items or digits.  This is one reason phone numbers are kept as short as possible.

More people are allergic to cow's milk than any other food.  The most common drink given to children is, you guessed it.  However, in all fairness the alarming rate of asthmatic and allergic conditions in children is partly to blame for their miriad illnesses

A year as we know it comprises 365 days.  A "cosmic" year is the amount of time it takes our sun to revolve around the center of the Milky Way, about 225 million of our years (give or take).

Any wine-fanciers?  Then you'd know of the rich embrosia "trokenbeerenauslese" an extremely rare German wine made from vine-dried grapes, so scarce and singularly unique that it can take a skilled picker one full day just to gather enoughto fill a single glass.  Probably more expensive than a pair of Reboks!  (yea, a zillion of them).

And now for some WEIRD AND STUPID LAWS absolutely still in effect - I'm more frightened that people thought they needed these laws!  Have a read:

In Ohio is it illegal to get a fish drunk.

In Arizona, you may not hunt camels ( and I don't mean the ciggies lol ).

In Paraguay, you may not participate in a duel if you're not a legal blood donor.  ( has an odd logic ... )

In Nebraska if you wish to serve beer, your bar must also have a kettle of soup simmering on the stove.

In North Dakota, it's illegal to serve pretzels with beer.

In Atlanta, GA, you may not tie your giraffe to a phone pole or street lamp.

In Florida you may not sleep under the hair dryer ( even if you own the salon ).

In New York you can do most anything for fun.  You can throw baseballs all your want, too.  But if you throw it at someone's head in anger, you'll be arrested.  Now, I have to ask:  why is this even on the books like that?  Isn't this called assault or some such thing?

In Pacific Grove, CA, it is illegal to threaten or harrass a butterfly.  I don't dare imagine what they'd do to someone who killed one!

In Alabama you may not wear a fake moustashe to church.  But you may certainly wear your favorite cowboy hat.

Once again, stay tuned for more episodes of BBT and remember:  People will always tend to judge you based on the worst day of your life.

These are so outrageous they are funny LOL. I once saw a calf with two heads but one face was on the side of the other ones head, it was about halfway from the nose to the ear. Looked weird. I also saw a snake with two heads in a museum in Atlanta GA. It was not living but had been. Thanks for sharing these funnies. Helen

Can you throw a baseball at someones head just for fun though?
As long as you arent angry is it ok?

I think I've just discovered a loophole in the law that would allow you to get rid of unwanted neighbors.
:O)

Look, I could have really done without that last line!!  I can imagine how some of those laws got started.  But others, I don't have a clue.  -  Barbara

In England, it was illegal for a boy under age 10 to behold a naked mannequin
All males over age 14 had to practice archery in the presence of a clergyman
All hackney carriages [cabs] had to carry a bale of hay in the boot
It is legal for a pregnant woman to urinate in public - provided she does it into a policeman's helmet
It is equally legal to urinate in public, as long as you hold on to the right rear wing of your car

Need I continue?

Some fascinating facts.  I always love hearing these funny blue laws.  I can see a reason for some of these LONG ago, but some are plain ol' strange!!  LOL  Thanks, Cathy!  xox  P.S.  Who WAS that first person to harass that butterfly?? LOL

Hre's a good one for you.  In the state of New Mexico, a 17 year old can leave home without their mothers permission and no one will do one thing about it.  Even if that 17 year old is making bad choices and comes from a loving and caring home.  Yea, I was walking along one day, enjoying the sunshine when suddenly out of no where, my daughter was abducted by the laws of this land who were not there for her when I was raising her and caring for her with no help from one living soul.  Think that's pretty weird.

Interesting facts.  I did chuckle at that one about not retiring to bed before first taking a bath.  I can't imagine people being so clean minded when they passed that law  I thought all primitive people only bathed once a week, as we did on Saturday.  We were too busy the rest of the week to heat the water on the stove.  Gerry http://journals.aol.com/gehi6/daughters-of-the-shadow-men/

I love hearing about questionable laws. I'm a small town reporter and I have spent a lot of hours sitting through municipal meetings while people try to pass laws. One law that have recently passed many of the towns in this area is that residents can only allow people to sleep on their sofas for no more than 2 nights. Now how does a community enforce that? Another law passed a town council here recently is that if a cat poos on a sidewalk the owner is responsible for picking it up. Okay that's fine and dandy. I mean pet owners should be responsible for their pets' damage. It's just that I've never heard of a cat do that. They bury everything. Oh well. I think this was thought up by a cat hater. That, and this woman really wanted to come up with something to claim as 'her ordinance.'
