Tickle Your Brain

In the nicest of ways, I believe when you think more fully, you live more fully.  Here's something to furrow your brow, I hope you dare to really think about your answer:

``````````````````````````````````````````````
THE STATEMENT BELOW IS FALSE.
THE STATEMENT ABOVE IS TRUE.
WHICH STATEMENT IS TRUE?
``````````````````````````````````````````````

If you've though awhile, by now you're in a quandry.  I'll make up an example of what this entails:

`````````````````````````````````````````````
JACK CANNOT LIE.  JACK SAYS JILL IS A HOOKER.
JILL CANNOT TELL THE TRUTH.  JILL AGREES WITH JACK.
IS JILL A HOOKER?
`````````````````````````````````````````````

That example's a bit easier than the first puzzler, but I hope I've tickled your brain a bit.  Have a good think!

Oh my, it's as if you are not allowed to write these sentences.  Very interesting.  Maybe it has to do more with language than it does with logic, or does it??  Hmmm... you have tickled my brain, Cathy.  LOL

okay, my head hurts.  If the first statement is true, then the second statement is meaningless because it cannot be true.  If Jack always tells the truth and Jill always lies, Jack was truthful when he said Jill was a hooker.  Jill lied when she said that she agreed with Jack's assertion that she is a hooker.  Nonetheless, Jack's initial statement is still true and Jill is therefore a hooker.  BTW, I rally have no idea!--Sheria
