Now that we know al Qaeda is more entrenched, organized, weathier, deadlier, and prospering in greater numbers than before 9/11, isn't it time to come home? If something only gets stronger the more you fight against it, stop fighting against it. Let's come home now.

Do you really think our coming home is going to protect us?
Cathy 2 Lynne: No, we'll never be fully protected from fanatic factions and insurgencies. We'll never be protected from life as it happens and how it happens. But maybe coming home from Iraq will protect those still risking their lives there, for nothing.

What are you saying? That every time it looks as though the enemy is stronger than you, you should give up, turn tail and run home? No way! That's when we should dig our heels in and fight harder~it means there's going to be a breakthrough! I don't even think you believe what you wrote here. I think you just snuck it in for another chance to say "bring 'em home." Anyway, that's exactly what satan would want~for us to give up when times get tough. But to what end? Let's say that we do bring the troops home. Do you think that that is going to magically stop the war? No, it won't. Because, contrary to what a lot of people are spreading, President Bush and the Republicans DID NOT start this war. Remember the other attacks on the World Trade Center before 9/11? How about the hijacking of the Achille Lauro? Or the downing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie? And that's just to name a few of the terrorist attacks that have been made or attempted, primarily by Muslims, before the final deadly straw was broken on September 11, 2001.
Cont'd...I believe that we should not stop until we have accomplished what we went there to do. We need to give it all we've got. This is a war between good and evil and the Lord is on our side! The only choice we have to make is WHERE we want to fight this war, not IF! Why do you think President Bush is fighting so hard to get the support for the troops that they so desparately need? Because he KNOWS what the choices are~he is on his knees in prayer, asking for wisdom from the Lord. These are the choices: a.) either fight this war OVER THERE, like we are now....or....b.) bring the boys home, like so many of you keep screaming to do, without thinking of the consequences...and fight the war ON OUR SOIL. What will it be, Cathy? Those are your choices. And the Muslims are already trying to take those choices away from us by attacking us HERE! (9/11 and most recently the attempt to bomb the pipelines at the airport at JFK) I, personally, do not want the war fought on our soil.
Cont'd...I believe that we should give it everything we've got and stay there until we've accomplished what we set out to do. To come home prematurely would be a disaster for the region and will start the whole cycle all over again for us, don't you see that? We have to finish what we started! Forget about POLITICS! It's not about if the Democrats or the Republicans win. This is a spiritual battle and has to be fought also by prayer. Open up your heart, Cathy, and really pray, long and hard~and please don't be ready with a quick retort of how you've already prayed and have ruffled feathers, because this is not about insulting you. I PRAY TO GOD that no Soldiers or families or friends of Soldiers fighting FOR YOUR FREEDOM see that ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING comment that you just made for Lynne just now! Is Politics so important to you that you have totally lost sight of what this war is really about? Are you so "gung ho" about your "party" or "candidate" winning that you don't even see the sacrifices that those brave young men and women are making FOR YOU ....AND ME? FOR OUR FREEDOM? FOR OUR NATION'S FREEDOM? And you say it's for NOTHING? HOW DARE YOU! I am so ashamed of you that I can't believe it! I hope you have the sense and the humility to make an apology and to really mean it! You should be on your knees thanking God that we have people willing to make those sacrifices for us~and they do it, even knowing there are people like you who don't even appreciate it. I think Cathy, that you have struck a nerve.
I say only that I don't feel the 'mission' is as clear as I once believed it was, but I don't know that coming home is going to make things any better. I just pray every day for our soldiers that they remain out of harms way and are able to return home to their families and friends, and a grateful nation.
I can only reiterate what mutualaide said with the words Oh Deary Dear! Oh how to lose friends and influence enemies with that topic, which belies the true, honest and spiritual you.
Like all paradoxes in life, e.g., we suffer to get well, give it away to keep it, war is not a paradox. It is a sheer and brutal hell and does not belong to the gentlier paradox if something get stronger the more we fight, then stop fighting it. That is the give in and win scenario that grossly misrepresents the very nature of why nations decide to use force against another for whatever reason, whether we agree with that or not.
War is a nasty and brutal experience where the first casualty in any conflict is truth. The truth is lost somehow in your opening statement and more so in your question.
Our prayers should be for worldwide peace but at a cost which is neither, surrender, fear or retreat. Al Qaeda are worldwide bullies and like all bullies they should be met with overwhelming force to stop them doing whatever they seek to destroy in any free and civilised society. Maybe history will judge this present campaign a re-enactment of the first conflict where there was no overwhelming need to destroy a despot and his threats as unfinished business? The second attempt is always harder than the first.

Uhm, I don't kind of understand your reasoning. Sorry Cathy. I am not sure 100% yet how I feel about the war yet (although I do 100% support the troops), whether we should be there or not. I am leaning towards being there. But either way, I don't understand your reasoning. Why should you back off from an enemy, merely b/c they are fighting harder? What would that have accomplished in WWII for instance? If you know a cause is right you never back off! I love you Cathy!

I think this is a hard subject, 'cos the longer that the troops stay out there, the more are gonna die. It's ok for people to say 'We should fight to the end', but it's not them that's personally fighting this war is it? I mean, physically out there. But on the other hand, if they come home, we'll just be struck again and again. Mind you, we keep getting struck anyways, even with the troops out there, so it makes no difference. Forgive me for being cynical but we'll never FULLY stop terrorism. I don't see how we can. Rid the main culprits and more take their place. It's a sad world we live in...but my dear cathy, I understand what you're saying.

An interesting topic and one I think you approached a while back. I don't think we can just come home!!! There is a job left to do and many of our fighting men and women have lost their lives trying to get the job done. To just up and leave now would dishoner their sacrifices to make us free and safe here in the USA. We are in too deep to just pull out now - we owe the ones that have lost their lives and all the men and women that are there sacrificing their lives every single day - striving hard to finish the job (so to speak) A wounded soldier came home from Iraq not too long ago. When a friend went to visit him in the hospital, he asked him if he was glad to be home. The soldier answered - heck no!!!! I can't wait until I feel well enough to get back there and kill some more of those bastards so we can leave one day with pride.
I would love to have every one of them come home - and I support the troops 110 %, but it is not the time. We have work to be done - and we need to finish what we came for. I am sorry, Ms Cathy, but I have to disagree with you here. These are my personal feelings = nothing to do with Bush or politics. I just feel that we are not ready to make a major move to come home yet - but the time will come and we can leave with our heads up, the American flag held high and knowing that all of those left behind are smiling.
