An Invitation To Awe - TONIGHT

HOPING YOU HAVE CLEAR CRISP SKIES FOR TONIGHT'S LUNAR ECLIPSE AT 10:00 PM EST.  The process begins at 8:43 PM EST but the eclipse will start at 10:01 PM.  During the intial hour of the five phases the moon will go through as she passes into and out of earth's shadow, you'll be seeing an event which startled and amazed your ancestors of millenia past.  Imagine earliest homo-sapiens as they stood and gazed at this red-orange sight, how did they interpret what they saw, what information did they process?  No doubt the majority ran into their caves, fearful and confused, but that one lone progenitor of modern astronomy risked whatever doom imagineable and continued to gaze in awe and wonder ....

That's what I'll be doing tonight, while silently thanking that singular, curious ancient ancestor.  She was an exceptional woman !   ;-)

I was just reminded of this while watching the local news.  Of course we are getting snow right now but they think it will be clear by 9 or 10. I am going to be looking and try to get some shots of it...I hope it works.  I can't wait!

She certainly was!

We have already set up two cameras with two different settings, on tripods, ready to head outside just before 10:00 pm.

Will the pictures be good?  Who knows?  But I'll give it a shot anyway.

Happy Lunar Eclipse!

I got up at 1 30am the night before last and remembered about the eclipse.  It was a super clear night with a beautiful moon.
Not so this evening...we have rain and winds.  Boohooo!
At least I don't have to set my alarm for the wee sma' hours.
What a shame!

DANG! DANG! DANG!  Since I was a very little girl, the night's sky has been one of my favourite pastimes/mysteries.  I was all set to enjoy this...and got a stupid (and admittedly necessary) phone call...and MISSED it.  GRR. ;)  C.
