The handiwork of an immense power.
This incredible picture is real, taken by my brother last week on the Idaho-Washington border. It is the rarest of all naturally occurring atmospheric phenomenon. It is called a "fire rainbow" and lasted about 1 hour. For this to occur the clouds must be cirrus, 20,000 feet in the air, and just the right amount of ice crystals and sun must hit the clouds at precisely 58 degrees. Amazing. (Originals too big to fit here)
These are shots he took of the Northern Lights over Yellow Knife, Yukon, Canada.
So is this, our only world, a miracle or what ! " vigilo astrum "

Awesome & beautiful pictures
What truly beautiful pictures and amazing. The rainbow clouds to me must be a little of what heaven may look like as we pass from earth into heaven's gate, magnificant. I absolutely loved the northern lights. Thank you to you Luddie for posting this and to your brother for sharing is wonderful photos.
Funny that I was allowing the negative side of my personality to hold sway-poorly dealing with something that just happened, and then I clicked on this link. Talk about a rapid change in mood & tone. Thank you for posting this.

How gorgeous, Cathy. I have never seen a 'fire rainbow!'
Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity. I love the Northern lights photos too. Lots of sights on this earth fill me with awe. I have just been reading "The Last Three Minutes" in the Sciene Masters Series imagining what it might be like when the universe ends as swiftly as it began! But the writer paints several scenarios. I love to read this language that is not mine but is fascinating, even when I hardly understand it. It is amazing to think that some people do understand space and time so much better and attempt to explain it as best they can to the amateurs who also wonder too.
Dear Cathy,
I had never heard of a 'fire rainbow' until now. what beauty there is on this earth!
My thanks to your brother for sharing these super photos. The northern lights must be wonderfully uplifting to experience too.
Thank you too!
