Definition of Stress Limits

This must be what DSL stands for, yes?  "Definition of Stress Limits.  I have yet to fully install it and incredibly, am enduring nothing but problems.  First Verizon says it will be "activated" and ready to install on the 30th.  I then get a call yesterday to "go ahead and install it, it's activated."  So of course, believingly I do.  IT DOES NOT WORK.  And when I uninstall it to try and regain my dinosaur dial-up, I have no dial-tone.  Gone.  In the Twilight Zone.  By jerry-rigging the phone, I'm able to call Verizon and tell them the troubles, they say "it was a mistake, wait till the 30th."  Okay, I can live with that.  So I mistakenly thought.

This morning I get a recorded call AGAIN from Verizon saying "go ahead, it's activated, install your DSL".  Yeah right.  This time I call Verizon back and ask if that's a bona fide call.  Once again, they tell me of their "mistake" and to "just ignore everything we say and wait until the 30th."  I'd like to ignore alot more than that.

My question:  Is DSL worth it once it's up and running?  Better still, does anyone have it up and running?  Does it work fine, all the time?  All I hear are complaints.  I can't afford cable, and DSL is only $15 a month with no payment to AOL.  Sounds reasonable, but not at the expense of my online sanity, which when gone, affects my entire outlook just as it does most of you.  So.  Should I venture into the stress of DSL or can anyone say anything nice about it?  I thank you.

Ugghhh, you must be frustrated!  Sorry they did that to you, Cathy.  How maddening.  But to answer your question, yes, DSL is worth it!  I can't imagine doing without.  I also have AOL/Verizon.  As soon as I installed it, I couldn't believe the differences.  My computer speed was tremendously faster!  Of course, with DSL, journals download so much quicker.  Journals can be graphic intensive, and I know there were some journals that I was trying to go to while on dialup that I had to stop going to b/c of the graphics.  The pages (b/c of graphics, pics, etc) would just take thirty seconds or so to load.  So I stopped going to those journals.  Now I can go to them again and they take one or two seconds to load!  There is also this issue, of course, of how wonderful it is to always have the phone lines free when you get DSL.  Not a small thing to be thankful for!  So you ask if you should venture in?  I can't imagine venturing without!!!

I have a question:  Is that your total Internet bill....$15??  I have been meaning to sit down and compare between Comcast package deal (i.e., Internet, TV) and Verizon (i.e, phone, Internet and TV) to see which program is the most economical.  Right now, I know I'm losing money because I have Comcast, DirectTV and Verizon, LOL.  Don't need them all!

Cathy 2 Lynne:  Yes indeed, $15/mo is my total bill, however I don't use all 3 services you do.  Can I suggest a really terrific deal that's reliable, reasonable, and much better than Comcast etc?  try OPTIMUM.  This is the server I wouldf use if getting the triple deal you have - all my family uses it and love it.  $29.95 for each service, that's TV, high-speed internet and phone.  I'll email you all the details, okay?  Hope it helps!  :-)

Cathy, I am so sorry for your problems.  I have Verizon and it went very smoothly.  So, I hope once it works, you will have no problems ~fingers croseed, knock on wood~.  I will tell you this, I was AMAZED at the speed of my computer after DSL was installed.  I can do so much more in a shorter period of time!!  Zip, zip, zip!!  It is also nice not to have to worry that the phone lines are tied up!  So, if these two issues are worth the extra money, go for it and smile!  I am so, so happy I got it!  I LOVE it!!  Hugs and love, your Maire xox

What a dreadful company, I'd almost pull out again with such a muddle. DSL is fast - if and when it's up and running. Hope all is well in the end, Caty

I had no problems with DSL...but I had MANY problems with Verizon and would never do business with them again! They were a nightmare!! And if you check their record on the better business bureau, they have soooooooo many complaints.
Good luck!

I gave up painfully slow dialup for cable because my computer guy Dave promised me my online phone iConnecthere would be much less expensive than VarTec, and it has been.  I was paying the same price for my phone as I now pay for cable. And I so love love broadband.  Journaling is pure joy with it.  The computer room had DSL which was fast, fast enough.  Otherwise I have not experienced DSL.  I wish you luck.  I tried to get free broadband with the ASU connectin but it was too unreliable for me.   Gerry

I have cable, but that's because my son worked there and swore up and down that we just HAD to have it. We HATE the cable company, and have a LOT of trouble with our cable internet dropping offline all the time. We have been talking about going to DSL because this computer wizard hubby know went from cable to DSL (I think with SBC) and hasn't noticed a bit of difference in the speed and hasn't had any of the trouble he was having with the cable also. So I guess it's just a matter of findin the right company. We have several friends on DSL who've never had cable and they just love it. I hope by now you have your issues all resolved. Hugs, Barb
