Worth Repeating

                            " LONG - DISTANCE LOVE "

A heart as full as vessels hold,

     I hold you as I can -

though miles conspire to separate,

     I write to you again.

The gift of words will last a life,

be they harsh or kind -

for once the eyes do take them in

     they're branded on the mind.

And sweet are those I get from you,

     a faith in me, I sense -

It's truly earned in all I feel

to ease you when you're tense.

Though try I do, to find a way,

     I stumble at each start

in dealing with my other side

     who keeps herself apart.

Oh don't let's speak of that, my dear,

I've all this love to spill -

And we shall triumph in our time,

     until these clocks do still.

I think that any of us who have met special people on the Internet have experienced "long distance love".  It is difficult to avoid when you talk to some people every night, talk to them on the phone, send cards and gifts and find your thoughts drifting their way as you try to go to sleep at night.  However, a long distance love is most difficult to maintain - at least I have found this to be true.  The few times I have encountered a relationship on here, it has never worked for me.  Many of us have lots of love to give, and we give it the best we can considering the miles between us.  But there comes a time when more is needed - like actual contact with the person in real life.  This happens sometimes, but there are many times that, for one reason or another, it never happens.  There is a problem with money, or job interference, weather, health, all of these and more keeping us apart.  Sooner or later, the feelings drift away, the contact on the Internet lessens and the phone calls are farther apart, emails and romantic e-cards come less often.  One day, there doesn't seem to be any contact at all.  And it is then that both of us know that the distance between us is too great to sustain our relationship - it becomes too frustrating to continue.
One thing I do agree with you here is that we have our memories - and there are a very few that I will remember always - like you say, Cathy - possibly "until the clocks do still."
This poem shows a great deal of feelings on your part - there must have been times for you, too, to experience on line love?  Yes?  You wrote this a year ago - what made you enter it now and who inspired you to compose this poem???
As always, well done - you are so gifted.  Your words always speak to my soul.

Hi my dear friend, the internet is indeed a very scary place, but also can bring people together as friends, and sometimes if God chooses, as lovers.  Long distance is indeed difficult. Many I have spoken to have said for them it has not worked.  In my experience I have met many special friends from all over the world, England, Australia, Oregon, Washington State, New York. My experience to this point in time has been most satisfactory.  As far as a long distance relationships go, I am currently in one and have been for 3 years, it indeed can be difficult but if you realize God has blessed you with a very special person in your life, all the time and effort put into it is rewarded ten fold.  I have not seen my significant other in ten months, but we every day speak to one another, it is truly like we are together.  Now to respond to your beautiful poem.  This poem to me is so very special it speaks of a very special love, and a special love aside from a relationship with a partner, can be a very special forever friendship that two people share even with long distance.  Yes sometimes, one can hold back and be afraid to venture forth to embrace a relationship or a friendship, the internet is very scary and there are many horror stories but also there are some that are very special and rewarding.  You have bared your soul in this poem and the person to whom you write it, is indeed very fortunate.  They have in their life a friend in you or even a lover that from my point of view from knowing you for four years they are very blessed, you give all to your friendships or relationships and you are one of my very dearest forever friends, you have enriched my life beyond measure.  Distance for myself and you, Luddie is but a mere touch of the keyboard or the phone and it brings to me my forever friend whose friendship I cherish forever more.  God bless you my friend and keep safe.

Oh my dear, dear Cathy. How many millions can relate to this poem. Some of us just finding the love of a dear friend others of us finding the love of our life. That lover who should have found us first.  A beautiful, poignant piece. Should be published somewhere.   Thank you for sharing it with us.
