"No Casket For Me, Please"

Lay me down in a bed of grass

when my body dies, that it may pass

deep into the essence of

this glorious earth I do so love.

But until that time:

My heart gives rise to the high places,

how transcendent is God in these spaces!

Where trickster breezes weave through my hair

and the miracles of life are everywhere.

Then soon:

As a falling leaf, my cheek doth kiss

this life I know I'll sorely miss;

so when you note my long, last nod,

just place me in the soft, green sod.

I keep telling Pete just fire up a backhoe when I die and put me to rest.  I won't care.  I'll be Home!!!  -  Barbara

I share your love of this beautiful earth.  The soft green sod is a lovely piece of imagery when describing the last sleeping place.
I enjoyed this poem very much...

Uhm, I am thinking totally practical here, LOL.  But I won't make my comment, LOL, lest you get mad at me.  I guess I am a literalist, LOL.

Beautiful. I have a fear of being entombed , trapped after death. So I have mentioned to Doc my desire to be put on a pillar of days of old and burned as my ancestors before me. My ashes will then be picked up on the wind and travel, the width of the Earth. I've also requested my last breathe would be taken in the midst of the forest. As I released the last essence of me, I would look to the sky through the branches my my brothers. (Hugs) Indigo

This is beautiful.  I would prefer this to a casket as well.

What a truly beautifully written poem, I love its quiet spirituality.--Sheria

Very spiritual but in a crazy world totally impractible. A great idea though as I would wish my tongue stuck out and my arm in the air, as to pass those by, who will still be there. Cheeky eh? ED

I AGREE, NO CASKET FOR ME.
I LIKE THE WORDS, SPEAKING OF OUR SPIRIT, ABSENT FROM THE BODY, PRESENT WITH THE LORD.
I REALLY HAD NOT EXPECTED TO BE HERE THIS LONG.
SEVERAL YEARS AGO I ARRANGED FOR CREMATION FOR MYSELF, PAID FOR IT IN ADVANCE. NO SERVICES, NO REFRIGERATION, NO DELAY.
AT LEAST ONE RELATIVE WILL BE CONTACTED FOR THE 'GO AHEAD' AND TO PAY THE SALES TAX. (NOT ALLOWED TO PAY THE TAX IN ADVANCE).
THIS ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR FAMILY TO TRAVEL FOR A FUNERAL.
(THE TIME BEFORE DEATH IS BEST TO VISIT IS THE WAY I FEEL)
THIS IS MY PERSONAL VIEWPOINT AND I RESPECT THEATTITUDE OF THOSE WHOM PREFER AN ELABORATE FUNERAL.
THERE IS A BODY THERE WITHOUT A SOUL OR SPIRIT.
TO ANY OF THOSE WHOM DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE PARTING OF THE SPIRIT FROM THE BODY, I SUGGEST RESEARCHING IN A HOLY BIBLE (CHRISTIAN).
